Over the last 2 years we have seen a mass decriminalized of Cannabis across the United States. Some states have legalized, others allow medical use or have decriminalized the plant all together. This shift is unprecedented and occurring on such a rapid level that regulators and states are now focusing on rules and regulations to integrate Cannabis into the mainstream economy. While this was occurring new revelations and studies conducted on psychedelic plants such as mushrooms and DMT extract as well as synthesized psychedelics (MDMA & LSD) have been released. These studies have displayed clear positive benefits of the utilization of psychedelics, especially in controlled therapeutic settings in which doses were administered to see how it would effectively allow the patient to release traumas. Corporations such as Dr Bronners have donated large sums of money to the implementation of psychedelics in mainstream culture within the years to come. This has lead to grass roots movements to push for decriminalization of Entheogenic Plants.
Oakland is the 2nd city to decriminalize mushrooms but the 1st city to decriminalize all Entheogenic plants and fungi. Entheogenic plants include Ayahuasca, San Pedro, Peyote and more. This is a shift from completely being illegal, to being tolerated. Adult Use of Entheogenic Plants is now legal in Oakland as of June 4th, 2019. The city’s council directed the Oakland Police Department to halt all investigations and persecutions of Entheogenic Plant use. This has led to other states introducing a decriminalization bill such as Iowa Republican Jeff Shipley supporting use of magic mushrooms recreationally; as well as a bill that will be voted on in Oregon in 2020.
There were arguments on both sides as to decriminalization in which the advocates stated that these naturally occurring plants and fungi have been used for 100’s of years from spiritual quests to harmonizing psychiatric imbalances. Furthermore, they said that decriminalization would allow Oakland Police to focus their energy on higher priority issues.
In the months and years to come and we grow accustomed to a world of Cannabis and Entheogenic Plant legalization, we will soon see what affects this has on our society. Many have been assisted from the use of psychedelics. Usage of Ayahuasca, San Pedro and Psilocybin Magic Mushrooms have increased over the last decade. Many are utilizing these plants to transcend trauma, release PTSD, heal from sickness and dis-ease; and the evidence suggests that humanity has been using psychedelics for thousands of years. The science behind Cannabis and Entheogenic plants and their ability to assist in harmonizing the human body and consciousness can no longer be denied. If we are able to utilize our collective knowledge with these plants and fungi to create a tool and opportunity for all of humanity to work through challenges, as well as gain insight to who they are and their relationship to each other and Earth, we have no idea what is possible. This is the world we are creating and it is happening now. Portal to Ascension will be created an Entheogenic Plant Awareness Conference in Oakland in 2021.
