Those of us who have grown up in cultures shaped by many of the world's religions have been educated to relate to our ancient, religious and sacred texts in a particular way. In my trilogy of books Escaping from Eden, The Scars of Eden and Echoes of Eden I share a personal journey of discovery which began in the world of the Bible as a theological educator and took me on a voyage of discovery through history and around the world. Through that journey I have come to view our ancient texts and our ancient indigenous narratives in a fresh light. I argue that: our ancient texts are not fictions, nor are they histories. They are not about religious devotion, nor are they moral tales. They are not stories of creation nor are they stories about GOD or gods. They are not predictive texts nor are they prophetic So if they are not these things, then what are they? What was the information our ancestors wished to bequeath us and why? And how might we live differently in the light of that information?
