MUFON OC PRESENTS:
Mass Sighting cases offer us a rare opportunity to see how community leaders deal with what has historically been a taboo subject. Through the years, most official reactions by news people and politicians have been rather predictable. For decades, a canned, systematic approach has been used in response to UFO events--and mass-sightings in particular. However, since ownership of video cameras and cell phones has become widespread, blanket dismissal of eyewitness testimony as simply a result of “mass hallucination” is a harder sell. Sam will show examples of a variety of media responses to mass UFO events and discuss how the process of shaping public perception of these events has changed over the years.

Sam Maranto, a twenty-year MUFON Field Investigator, will share his knowledge of a wide variety of mass UFO sightings. He will discuss incidents that occurred between 1999 and 2011. A mass sighting is defined as one where more than 100 people witness the phenomenon. Maranto will discuss more than ten mass sighting cases in some detail, including cases from Illinois, New Jersey, Minneapolis, Colorado, Australia and more. He will also show videos and stills taken by witnesses to these incidents.
Samuel J. Maranto is an investigative researcher, best known for his work on the Tinley Park Mass Sightings of 2004 and the Chicago O’Hare Gate C17 incident of 2006. These cases have been featured on a number of television programs throughout the world. The History Channel’s UFO Hunters episodes “Invasion Illinois” and “Aliens at the Airport” are two examples. Dateline NBC’s “10 Best UFO Encounters” was a major television network special that featured video footage from the Tinley Park Mass sighting, along with other remarkable UFO cases.
Sam is the State Director of the Illinois State Chapter of the Mutual UFO Network.
