MUFON OC PRESENTS:
In March, we will be hosting a special showing of CARLOS: BEING OF LIGHT with filmmaker Tyler Stallings. Edward Carlos, an artist, makes the invisible visible through his paintings, which act as visual metaphors for his encounters with extraterrestrial beings of light. The 68-minute documentary, which was produced, directed, and edited by Stallings was completed in September, 2021. The filmmaker will be with us to offer his comments and answer questions about the film.
Over the years, scholars have compared Carlos’ encounter experiences with those of other notable contactees and mystics. In the film, Carlos recounts his formative encounters in 1990 on the island of Iona, which is part the Inner Hebrides island chain in Scotland. Harvard psychiatrist John E. Mack devoted a chapter to Carlos in his groundbreaking and influential 1994 book, Abduction: Human Encounters with Aliens. For Carlos, empathy is the key to all relationships, whether with fellow humans, the planet, or Beings of Light. After retiring as a fine arts professor from The University of the South in 2005, Carlos constructed the IONA: Art Sanctuary nearby. This combination art gallery and sculpture display was conceived as a tribute to Iona and a place to explore the mysteries of Carlos’ encounters with the Beings of Light.
Tyler Stallings first met Carlos in the mid-1980s when he took painting classes from him at The University of the South in Tennessee. Stallings came to understand the true nature of Carlos’ encounter experiences only when he read about them in John Mack’s book. At the time, Stallings was conducting research for an exhibition he curated called, Are We Touched? Identities from Outer Space (1997), presented on the 50th anniversary of the Roswell UFO Crash. Since that time, Stallings has produced several other exhibitions that circle back to that initial show. Currently, Stallings is the director and senior curator at the Frank M. Doyle Arts Pavilion at Orange Coast College.
