Light is a distraction? The Sacred Dance

Light is a distraction?

Is light a distraction?—both metaphorically and, in some ways, literally. The very concept of light and darkness invites the question:

Was light present in the beginning, or was it born from darkness

When we examine hundreds of ancient origin stories from cultures around the world, a pattern emerges. The original source of existence is rarely described as light. More often, it is spoken of as sound, vibration, frequency, or The Word.

In stories where “God” is associated with light or depicted as a luminous being, I would argue that these references often point to extraterrestrial, interdimensional, or angelic entities—fragments of the original source rather than the source itself. That is not to say these beings are not true representatives of higher consciousness. However, are they the original source, or are they free-willed emanations of the Creator, acting their own intentions and agendas upon Creation?

The idea that light might be a distraction arose from two profound experiences I had in recent years.

Experience 1: Ayahuasca in Costa Rica

During an Ayahuasca ceremony in Costa Rica, the shaman spoke before the ceremony, offering this guidance:

“Do not allow yourself to be distracted by the beautiful lights and geometry. The truth and depth of your transformation lie beyond these apparitions of light.”

This struck me deeply. In past psychedelic experiences, I had been mesmerized by the beauty of the visions, losing myself in the spectacle rather than fully absorbing the awareness and lessons that lay beyond the visuals.

Experience 2: Vipassana Meditation

Months ago, I attended a Vipassana retreat—a 10-day silent meditation. Though I had done this before, something the teacher said stood out to me like never before:

“Do not open your eyes during meditation. It is important to keep them closed throughout the process. When you open your eyes, the light comes in, and distractions arise. Be intentional, with clarity and focus.”

This resonated deeply. The moment we open our eyes, light floods in, and distractions abound. The inner reflection that darkness provides is easily disrupted.

The Role of Light and Darkness

So, is light a distraction? Not in a purely literal sense—we CAN dwell in the light and embrace it. But what about true transformation, both individually and collectively? What about shadow work?

In a world of amnesia, the only way to truly understand light is by knowing and experiencing darkness.

There is always light at the end of the tunnel, but we must walk through the tunnel of darkness to reach it.

But what is darkness? It does not have to mean evil, suffering, or nefarious intent—though at times, it manifests that way in our experiences. Darkness is the shadow side of the singularity. The singularity, in its purest form, was a frequency, a sound—and from it, duality emerged.

The frequency sped up to become light and slowed down to become darkness.

But here is the ultimate question: When the singularity became duality—light and darkness—did the Source favor one over the other? Or did it love both equally?

This is the paradox at the heart of existence. Is darkness just as valid as light? Do they dance together, creating only the illusion of a battle?

The Neutrality of Darkness

Consider another analogy: a black hole or a wormhole. Is a black hole evil? No—it simply exists, serving its cosmic function. We are, in a sense, going through our own quantum awakening, a transition akin to passing through a wormhole.

And what happens in this process? We must move through the darkness of the singularity before emerging into an entirely new and evolved state of being. We lean into the unknown, pulled in every direction by cosmic forces, until we emerge into a higher harmonic reality.

Integrating Both Light and Shadow

So, is light a distraction? Or is it only a distraction when we limit ourselves to it?

True transformation comes from reconciling both polarities within us—light and darkness, our empowered self and our shadow self. We are here to walk in harmony within duality.

This is why I created The Shadow Workers Course—to explore these questions and guide others in reconciling the deepest parts of themselves, not just from this lifetime, but beyond.

And in this year of the Snake—the second reptilian year in a row—we are being given the opportunity to shed our old skin with ease, revealing the truth, we were always whole, always perfect beneath it all.
